Seeing Yourself through God’s Eyes

God has always loved us, because that’s His nature. He’s the very essence of love, but because of Who He is, He didn’t stop at simply creating all of nature and putting us in charge of it. He sent us His Son to demonstrate His love, and teach us how to pattern our lives and our relationships, according to His Word. When life turns painful, and we feel small and insignificant, seeing ourselves through God’s eyes gives us a proper perspective.

Happy, healthy relationships make life fulfilling, but many in the world have little idea how to form or nurture them. When we’re stuck in a bad relationship, our thinking can become distorted, and we can reach the point where we think negatively about ourselves. Good relationships are a blessing from God; and they form when we trust Him to lead the way. Making a conscious effort to remember what God thinks of us can make a tremendous difference in our mental outlook. “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee” (Psalm 139:14, 17, 18).

God thought enough of us to fashion us in His Own image (Genesis1:26, 27) even though He knew, way back in the very beginning before we were even born, that we would make mistakes. He knew exactly what He was doing when He made each and every one of us, and He doesn’t make mistakes! His love is unconditional; we’re always on His mind, and He wants the very best for us. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11, NKJV).

Far too many people fail to value themselves because of their poor self-image. A lack of self-respect puts us at risk of entering into unhealthy relationships. Remembering how much God values us keeps our focus on Him, and increases our belief in our self-worth. “Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows” (Luke 12:6, 7).  God knows everything about us, yet He still accepts and loves us for who we are.

God wants to be with us always, and He’ll never abandon us. A strong relationship with Him affects how we relate to everyone else. When we struggle and the world makes us feel unimportant, we can remember how God sees us. “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor” (Psalm 8:3-5, NIV). We’re important to Him!
