When we study the principles of leadership and being the head of something, we often refer to this concept in a worldly sense. The world’s burning question is “Who is the boss?” We associate this term with someone being in charge of others, but this differs from its biblical definition. God’s definition of being the head is based in the “kephale” context of nurturing, growth, and development. According to this definition of kephale, God is the head, or source, and His worldwide church receives nourishment from Him. When we’re in a relationship with the Word and allow Christ to have preeminence in our lives, this relationship causes us to grow, mature, and fulfill our potential. Truly being the head isn’t to be served, but to serve others in love.
