One major advantage believers have over the world is that God is protecting them on every level. This divine protection we have isn’t just in the supernatural realm, but also in the physical realm. God covers every detail, including our financial resources. Even if the global economy implodes, turns upside down, or does something crazy, He’s well able to keep our money safe.

Although money is the least important thing in the kingdom of heaven, God knows we need it on a daily basis. He has promised to watch over it, and He always keeps His promises. We therefore don’t have to worry or fret about it. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). We don’t have to go too deep on this; there’s a reason God uses the word “riches.”

During His earthly ministry, Jesus knew exactly where to look to find what was needed at the right time. His disciples trusted in Him and never lacked for anything. When financial needs came up, He was their supply source.

After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?” “Yes, he does,” he replied. When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. “What do you think, Simon?” he asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes—from their own children or from others?” “From others,” Peter answered. “Then the children are exempt,” Jesus said to him. “But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours” (Matthew 17:24-27, NIV).

Giving God permission to work in our finances assures we’ll always have more than enough.

The world operates in constant fear. A mindset like this robs us of our peace and causes us anxiety and worry over what could happen to our bank account. However, trusting God’s protection over our money allows us to go about our daily routines without any fear. He loves us; financial trouble isn’t His will for us. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love” (1 John 4:18).

Worldly financial reports always seem to be a worst-case scenario and only inspire fear. Fear is the opposite of faith, which is what the godly should live by. The evil spirit of mammon roams the world, seeking whom it may draw away from trusting in God by enticing them to trust in money. No matter what the devil tells us, God will never abandon us. “…Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread” (Psalm 37:25, NLT).

We fight negative emotions not only by declaring God’s Word, but also by believing in what we’re saying. Our words are important, and must come from our belief that Jesus shed His blood and died to give us freedom in all areas, including our finances. “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak” (2 Corinthians 4:13). Our trust in God connects us to His ability to provide a wall of protection around our finances that nothing can break through. Standing in faith in this area lets Him guard our wealth.
