Believers live in a hostile environment. The world is full of fleshly desires and ungodly influences; God warns His people not to let temptation infiltrate how we think. One of the ways the devil attacks our souls—which is where our thoughts and emotions live—is to persuade us to indulge in the worldly pleasure of sin. Getting born again gives us a brand-new design as God’s children; the battle we now face is all about the enemy’s attempts to get us to deny our new identity. He doesn’t want us to believe that we’re still righteous even when we make a mistake or fall short. Satan weaponizes thoughts to use against us; his plan is to confuse us about who we really are. Fighting back by echoing God’s Word concerning our identity in Him casts down all of the enemy’s lies and keeps us firmly planted in the victory Jesus won for us.
