Contentment in All Circumstances

Print
Contentment is pleasing to God and is a spiritual trait we need on our Christian walk. Being content involves being at peace in whatever circumstances we find ourselves. Even if we don’t like the momentary situation, we can remain content when we’re in Christ because He gives us the inner strength to face anything life throws at us. We can do all things through Him, who strengthens us.

This strength and contentment come from God’s grace given to us through His Son. The apostle Paul, who met Jesus after His resurrection, knew this type of contentment very well. Despite the hardships he endured, he never operated from a place of need; Paul learned to be content in whatever state he was in.

We’ll never find contentment outside of Christ; there will always be something else we don’t have, something else we haven’t done, or someone else we haven’t impressed. Relying on God, who is already impressed with us as His children, takes away that hunger. We don’t have to be perfect or do everything right, just believe in the one who is. Jesus’ grace is sufficient for us, because His strength is made perfect in our weakness.

Contentment is impossible when we think like the world; we need to renew our minds to find God’s perfect will for us. We don’t need to collect material possessions to be happy or content. We brought nothing into this world, and we’ll take nothing out; we can be content simply with our food and clothing.

Christ enables us to do what we can’t do through our own self-efforts. Living the Christian lifestyle is guaranteed to bring adversity in a world that’s hostile to Him. We can rejoice in our weaknesses and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles we suffer for Him; when we’re weak, we’re strong through Him.

We don’t need to overthink this. God simply wants us to be happy. Accepting what He offers gives us what the world can’t: contentment.

Prayer:

Lord, receiving Your unearned, undeserved favor allows us to be content in a discontented world. This is a great gift that You offer out of Your love for us. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
