Giving Powerfully

Print

God wants only the best for us, and believing his word empowers us to receive his blessings. However, what many people don’t understand is the link between blessing and giving. Becoming prosperous according to his will puts us in a position to give and bless others. But because the spirit of mammon is so strong, the thought of financial giving can inspire fear, if we put our trust in money instead of God.

Giving can be compared to a farmer sowing seed, fully believing he will eventually see a bountiful harvest. Concerning us, God has increase on his mind, but we must be willing to sow to experience that increase. As Christians, we set ourselves up to receive increase by giving generously. When we do, we’ll see abundance, not just in our finances, but in all other areas of our lives as well.

It’s important to give with the right motives. We can’t ever outgive God, who gave us his own Son because of his love for us. Love is the most powerful force in the universe, and unless we give with this motivation, we’re just going through the motions. Giving simply to get something for ourselves doesn’t work; whatever we do, doing it with any motive other than love results in zero benefit to us.

Giving out of love and thankfulness for what Jesus did for us connects us to him on a spiritual level. Giving should become a reflex action. It’s a powerful way of proving to ourselves who we really trust: God or money. Our faith withdraws what grace has made available.

Prayer:

Lord, keep us from having a wrong relationship with money, which interferes with our relationship with you. You love us and want us to experience abundance and blessings in every area of our lives, but in order for that to happen, we must trust you more than money. When we learn to give in the right spirit, we are empowered to do your will on earth. In Jesus’ name, thank you for the opportunity to be faithful stewards of your money. Amen.
