Money can exert a powerful influence on us. We’ve all seen people—and even some Christians—who have made foolish decisions when money was involved. We can say we trust God completely while still compartmentalizing our financial life and sealing it off from Him. Trusting God even in our finances allows Him to bless us in this area the way He wants to.

In the world, many people covet what they see and pursue money to collect for themselves. The word “covet” is defined as wanting something that belongs to someone else. There’s nothing wrong with having money as long as greed isn’t involved. During His ministry, Jesus warned His disciples to beware of covetousness because a man’s life consists of more than just the things he owns.

God considers money the least important thing in His kingdom. If we’re faithful in the little things, we’ll be faithful in the bigger things as well. However, if we’re untrustworthy about physical wealth, we can’t be trusted with the things of heaven. Therefore, we must be careful not to become enslaved to money and allow it to be our master.

There’s nothing wrong with earning an honest wage, but there are some things money can’t buy. God wants to give us His undeserved, unearned favor on our finances; relying on Him positions us to receive what we can never earn through our self-efforts. The Lord’s blessing makes us rich, and adds no sorrow to it. Money can be either a curse or a blessing; trusting God more than money puts us in the second category.

The world’s mindset is that we’re our own source of everything and the power to earn money comes from our own efforts. Nothing could be further from the truth. We must remember that God is the one who gives us the power to get wealth. Being mindful that He’s waiting for us to accept His favor brings financial blessings.

Prayer:

Lord, the world knows nothing about biblical money management, but Your Word tells us everything we need to know about financial wealth. Trusting in You allows You to bless us in every area, including in our finances. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
