God’s Grace as Demonstrated by Our Character

Print
We’re living in an age in which there’s a crisis of character in people. We see it all around us, and as believers we’re called to stand out from everyone else. We do this by modeling godly character. The Word of God gives us practical steps how to do this.

Who or what we expose ourselves to influences how we think; this works for good as well as for evil. How we think determines how we feel; our feelings determine our decisions; our decisions determine our actions; our actions determine our habits; and our habits determine our character. We mustn’t be fooled; bad company corrupts good character.

Our character is what defines us. It’s doing the right thing in the right way, even when no one’s looking, just because it’s the right thing to do. We see that less and less in these end days. Character determines how we treat others; Paul exhorted the Colossians to clothe themselves with mercy, kindness, and patience, make allowances for people’s faults, and forgive others.

To be godly is to regard God, have a relationship with Him, and depend on Him for everything we need in life. He’s our never-ending supply. Discontentment is widespread in the world right now because people’s nature is to rely on themselves instead of on God. Most people either don’t know, or don’t believe, that godliness with contentment is great gain.

Our environment lacks the moral compass needed to develop good character and live godly. As Christians, we’re either a blessing or a stumbling block to others, depending on what’s inside of us. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things; an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

Never has it been more important to demonstrate morally upright character. Often our behavior speaks louder than our words. Godly behavior is an unmistakable way of showing God’s grace toward others.

Prayer:

God, we live in an environment devoid of Your morals and values. However, You’ve given us the ability to show Your grace, mercy, and love toward others by our behavior. Thank You for enabling us point people toward You through our godly character. In Jesus’ name, amen.
