Influencing Others Powerfully

Print
The idea of being influential has universal appeal. We all like the idea of being able to change someone else’s mind and behavior. Influence is a powerful force that can be used either for good or for evil. Therefore, we must be careful who, or what, we’re influenced by.

The world is full of influences; however, the god of this world is behind them. It’s essential that our faith is strong and well-grounded in the Word of God so that we won’t be swept away by the wrong thing. There’s always the danger that our minds will be blinded to the truth of the Gospel of Grace without us even knowing what’s happening. To prevent this, we’ve been given the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth who lives in us.

We can influence others to do the right thing simply by setting an example with what we say and do. Believers are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. If we let God’s Word influence us, its power is like a light that shines in the darkness and catches people’s attention. They will notice.

We can either influence others, or be influenced ourselves. When Jesus gave the Great Commission, He didn’t mean for Christians to passively sit back and let the world influence them. We’re engaged in spiritual warfare. Jesus’ intention was for His followers to aggressively go on the offensive, deliberately and intentionally spreading His Word everywhere.

When we spend time in God’s presence by reading His Word and constantly meditating on it, His influence will get on us and in us. Our influence, in turn, will rub off on others when they’re in our presence. This is how souls are won. Letting God guide and direct us in this area allows Him to work through us and influence people in ways we could never do on our own.

Prayer:

Lord, Your Holy Spirit empowers us to witness to others and influence them. There’s a whole world of hurting people who need to hear from You, and You’ve empowered us to be Your representatives. We’re grateful and thankful for this opportunity. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
