The Spirit of God’s Favor

Print

The entire world wants and needs favor from God, but few know how to receive it. Most people think they must work hard and do everything right to earn it. However, unlike the children of Israel who lived under the Law of Moses, we’re free from useless self-efforts to please God and appease His anger. God isn’t angry anymore; if we’ve accepted His Son, He’s already pleased with us.

During His ministry, Jesus preached the Gospel of Grace. Those who believed Him and continued in His Word knew the truth, and the truth made them free. Jesus, Himself, was full of grace and truth. Moses gave the law, but grace and truth came by Jesus.

Unlike what religion tells us, the truth is that God has already decided to show us favor and dismiss our past shortcomings, if we’ve been born again. The law makes us conscious of our sins. However, we no longer have to rely on the Ten Commandments to guide us through life. Grace has replaced the law, and the Holy Spirit is the administrator of this new covenant.

It is the Spirit who imparts God’s unmerited favor and blessing to us. The law entered that sin might abound, but where sin abounded grace abounded much more. Sin doesn’t have dominion over born-again believers because we’re not under the law, but under grace. We’ve been made righteous, and the law was not made for the righteous.

Christians are righteous not because of what we do, but because of what Jesus already did. Just as one man’s disobedience made many people sinners, another man’s obedience made many righteous. That other man is Jesus. Our trust in Him and what He did for us is all we need in life.

Prayer:

Lord, we don’t have to struggle to be in right-standing with You or depend on our own performance to receive Your blessings. Your Spirit of grace has freed us from self-effort, We receive the goodness You want to give us through faith in Your Son. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
