Trusting in God’s Grace

Print

Putting our trust in someone can be a scary thing. Trusting another person involves opening ourselves up emotionally and becoming vulnerable; there’s always a risk that they may hurt or disappoint us. The exception to this is when we trust in God and His favor toward us. We never have to be afraid to lean fully on Him in all circumstances because He’ll never let us down.

Trusting God can literally save our lives. Elijah the prophet was accustomed to relying on God for everything; therefore, God sent him to the widow woman to teach her how to trust. Elijah made requests to her that initially may have seemed outlandish and unreasonable—such as giving him the last of her bread, water, and meal—but she trusted him and did his bidding. The results were nothing short of a miracle and the woman was blessed with great abundance.

It’s God’s will for us to enjoy abundantly peaceful, joyful, and prosperous lives; faith in Him positions us to receive all the good things He wants us to have. He’ll always accept us with all our imperfections, and He’ll never fail to come through on the promises He has made us in His Word. We can have full confidence in this because God isn’t a man that He should lie. What He says, He’ll do; what He speaks, He’ll make good.

Sometimes trusting God means pulling back from trusting in our own intellectual abilities to figure things out for ourselves. His Word on this says to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding. That’s good, because His grace is so big, so wide, and so deep we’ll never be able to understand all of it.

The world is filled with untrustworthy things, thankfully, God isn’t one of them. The people who know His name will put their trust in Him because He hasn’t forsaken those who seek Him. We can have confidence in this.

Prayer:

Lord, in an undependable world, You’re the one we can depend on. Your love and acceptance of us will never cease. We’re grateful for this. In Jesus’ name, amen
