The weekly meditation scripture and inspirational nugget are designed to encourage you in your walk with God, strengthen your faith and give you a specific scripture to meditate on all week long. To get the most out of these weekly scriptures, we encourage you to keep them before you every day and apply them to your life and circumstances. Declare them daily and stay focused on them until you experience true results.
Every single one of us has felt shame at one time or another. Shame hurts and it makes us want to run and hide, but it's not God's will for our lives. When we feel it, we can either let it condemn and paralyze us or fight it using the Word of God. Jesus went to the cross to set us free from shame and defeat it, so there's no reason for us to put up with it.
Sometimes shame results from something we said or did; sometimes it's from something someone else did. In the Old Testament, Ezra the scribe was ashamed because of the sins that he and the people had committed. He was embarrassed to look up to God and felt unworthy in God's sight. But because of what Jesus did when He came to earth on our behalf, we don't have to suffer from this evil emotion.
Shame is a tool the devil uses to hold us back in life and prevent us from moving forward into the good things God wants us to experience. The enemy is adept at twisting guilt, which says "I made a mistake," into shame, which says "I am a mistake." Shame wants to cause us to focus on our past mistakes so much that we're ruled by the fear that others will find out about them and reject us.
We've all sinned in the past, but when we get born again, we're no longer sinners. We need not feel ashamed because, through His grace, Jesus shed His blood to offer us forgiveness and His righteousness. As new creatures in Christ, we don't have to hold on to the memory of sins that caused us so much pain in the past, because the past is gone. When we believe this, we can claim a powerful victory against shame.
God, You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, to spare us from the intense pain of guilt and shame. The enemy wants to constantly remind us of past things that cause us shame, but we have victory in this area because Jesus died to defeat shame permanently. I give thanks and praise for this, in His name.
