As human beings, we’ve been hard wired to search for the truth. However, without the proper context, “the truth” can be deceptive. What was once true under the Law of Moses may no longer be true under grace. If we don’t know the truth about our salvation, life can be terrifying.
The law focused on performance, effort, and human responsibility. Everything hinged on right or wrong behavior, and the outcome followed accordingly. God gave the people a choice when He set before them a blessing and a curse, but no one could perform well enough to avoid the curse and receive the blessing. Thankfully, grace has completely changed our walk with God; we now have a confidence we didn’t have before.
Before the cross, there was distance between God and man, and access was limited and guarded. Now, those who were far off are brought close by the blood of Christ; He broke down the middle wall of partition between God and man. Because that separation was removed, we can enjoy a relationship with Him. God has also chosen not to remember any of our sins and iniquities.
Because of Jesus, we’re no longer living in the same old-covenant reality that demanded self-effort and reminded people of their sins. Sin doesn’t have dominion over us because we’re not under the law, but under grace. Everything has shifted from what we do to what Jesus has already done for us. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse Himself.
No longer do we have to strive to earn God’s blessings; we receive them as gifts because we’ve been redeemed. We’re free from the requirement to qualify for His goodness because we’re positioned in Christ to experience it. God moved us out from under the pressure of perfection and anchored us in belief.
We’re under a better covenant with better promises. Our identity in Christ is the new covenant truth. Believing this firmly roots us in our foundation in Him.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for taking us from being under the law to being under grace. Help us to rest in what Christ has already finished and to walk boldly in our new identity. In Jesus’ name, amen.
