Resting in Grace, Not Striving in Religion

Weekly Meditations

15 Dec 2025

Are you constantly trying to measure up? You may try to meet other people’s expectations or even your own, but this kind of pressure can wear you out. Crazy expectations are everywhere, but God never asked us to live that way. When we’re at the point of exhaustion, grace invites us to rest, not strive.

The apostle Paul’s spiritual journey shows us what happens when we stop trying to impress God and others. Paul realized that rule-keeping didn’t work, so he chose to live by faith in Christ instead. This shift from ego-driven effort to grace-filled living is what frees us. It’s not about appearing righteous before everyone else but about knowing that God already loves us, no matter what we do.

Religion complicates things and makes them harder than they need to be, but God simplifies them. He wants us to live free of unnecessary burdens. When we try to earn His favor, we miss the point. Grace says we already have it, with no hoops to jump through.

Even in relationships, we can get tangled in expectations. God’s desire is for us to be whole, focused on Him, and free of everyone’s demands. Whether married or single, our goal should be to live as instruments of His love, not slaves to performance. That’s where peace lives.

The world pushes self-effort as the path to success, but God offers something better. He invites us to wait for Him, trust Him, and let Him do the heavy lifting. When we’re tired, worn out, and burned out on religion, He shows us how to take a real rest.

Knowing Jesus personally is the real prize. Everything else, whether it’s status, credentials, or achievements, pales in comparison. Embracing Him gives us a righteousness that’s real and lasting. We’ll never want for anything when we let Him shepherd us through life.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for freeing us from the pressure to perform. Help us to rest in Your grace and trust in Your love every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
