We live in a world where fear seems to be everywhere. This emotion is one way God keeps us safe from harm and physical danger, but it works against us when we let it get out of hand. Forgetting that we’ve been given authority in the emotional realm can lead to our emotions controlling us, instead of the other way around. The result is irrational, groundless fears that put us in emotional bondage.
Fear Works Against Us
Fear can hold us back from fulfilling God’s will for our lives. Most people tolerate it because they think it’s natural, but God’s Word says otherwise. “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). Since fear didn’t come from God, we have no business letting it linger in our hearts.
Fear tolerated is faith contaminated. Faith is our response to what Jesus already finished, while fear is a response to what Satan and the world throws at us. When we believe God’s promises, we’re walking supernaturally. The enemy wants to convince us that God’s Word won’t come to pass, but faith says, “God’s already done it, and I receive it.”
What We’re Most Afraid Of
Job gave us a picture of how fear works. Out of fear for his children, he sacrificed continually, saying, “…It may be that my sons have sinned…” (Job 1:5). He later admitted, “For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me…” (Job 3:25). Fear opens the door for what we dread, but faith slams that door shut and ushers in God’s protection.
Jesus came to deliver us from every enemy so that we can fearlessly serve Him. “That He would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life” (Luke 1:74, 75). We’re holy and set apart from the world; therefore, we don’t respond like everyone else. Because we’re righteous, we have a blood-bought right to healing, provision, and protection.
We mustn’t let worry dominate our minds. Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life… Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” (Matthew 6:25, 27, NLT). Worry is simply meditating on the problem instead of on God’s promises. If it costs us our peace, it’s too expensive; God’s peace is part of His supernatural shield around us.
Fighting Fear with Faith
Every time fear whispers, we answer with prayer and thanksgiving. We remind ourselves that our Father already knows what we need and has already provided for it in Christ. That’s how we stay confident under God’s covering. “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done” (Philippians 4:6, NLT).
Giving our anxieties to the Lord is an act of humility. “Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7). When we hold on to our cares, we’re acting like we can handle life on our own. By contrast, giving them to God lets us step into the flow of His grace and protection, knowing He’ll never let the righteous be moved (Psalm 55:22).
Don’t Back Down
We also refuse to let the devil intimidate us. “Don’t be intimidated in any way by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved—even by God Himself” (Philippians 1:28, NLT). Fear is intimidation from the enemy, but standing firm in faith sends a message to hell itself: “You lose, and I win.” We announce our victory before it shows up by standing fearless.
God knows how to pluck us from situations. “The Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials” (2 Peter 2:9, NLT). Even when circumstances look rough, He’s working on our behalf. Supernatural protection doesn’t always mean we avoid challenges, but it does mean God delivers us from them all.
Protected On Every Side
We can count it all joy when we face trials because joy comes from what we know. We know that God is faithful, and patience—remaining consistently the same—keeps us steady until the victory manifests. Joy is a weapon. It confuses the enemy and strengthens our hearts while God’s power surrounds us.
God’s supernatural protection covers every area of life: our health, our families, our finances, and our peace of mind. We simply refuse to tolerate fear and stand on His promises. “The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles” (Psalm 34:17). That’s not some of our troubles, but all of them.
Depending on God for Our Safety
It’s imperative that we make the quality decision to completely rely on God. “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5, 6). Instead of leaning on our own reasoning, we lean on His unshakable Word. God’s direction always leads to safety, peace, and victory.
We pile every burden on God’s shoulders because He promised to carry them (Psalm 55:22). He’ll never let His people topple into ruin. Worry weighs a person down, but an encouraging Word lifts us up (Proverbs 12:25). Staying full of the Word lets us stay full of cheer, and a cheerful heart brings life and strength (Proverbs 15:13).
We’ve Already Won
Spiritual warfare isn’t us fighting to win something; Jesus already won it all. Our job is to maintain the victory He obtained at the cross. When we stand firm in faith, angels work, the Holy Spirit works, and every promise of God goes into action to shield us. We simply keep our hearts set on God’s Word and refuse to be moved by what we see or feel.
No matter what’s happening in the world, we can live the fearless life. God has delivered us from every enemy, surrounded us with His protection, and promised to rescue us from every trial. All we need to do is trust Him, cast our cares on Him, and keep our joy. Fear has no place in us, because all is well in Jesus’ name.
