“A fool has no delight in understanding, but in expressing his own heart... A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for blows. A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul” (Proverbs 18:2, 6, 7, NKJV).
God takes a dim view of foolishness. Fools are narrow-minded and short-sighted, and lack spiritual wisdom. They speak unwisely, and get themselves into trouble with what they say.
“The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning (the chief and choice part) of Wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight and understanding” (Proverbs 9:10, AMPC).
The world is filled with people without reverence or respect for God, who aren’t afraid to say and do evil things and who have questionable morals. Spending time with Him gives us true spiritual understanding that keeps our standards aligned with what’s right in His sight.
“A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just” (Proverbs 13:22).
God gives us sound instructions and advice on every area of our lives, including financial planning. The wealth of those who obtain it dishonestly will be redirected to the righteous.
“Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor… The lazy do not roast any game, but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt” (Proverbs 12:24, 27, NIV).
Diligence and hard work are godly traits. The world often rewards laziness, but those willing to embrace honest labor and make the extra effort will succeed and prosper.
“The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray” (Proverbs 12:26, NKJV).
This is an excellent verse for parents to remember when teaching their children how to choose their friends wisely. The people we spend time with greatly influence us, for good or for bad.
“No [actual] evil, misfortune, or calamity shall come upon the righteous, but the wicked shall be filled with evil, misfortune, and calamity” (Proverbs 12:21, AMPC).
The righteous who trust God and live by faith have His promise of supernatural protection from all types of harm. By contrast, those who choose an evil lifestyle attract evil to themselves.
“The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble” (Proverbs 12:13).
