Summary
There’s no comparison to the kind of life that we find under the grace of Jesus Christ. It frees us from the restrictions of having to rely on the self-effort required by the law, and allows us to depend on God’s overwhelming mercy. Religion today puts us back under bondage to the law, because it tells us to trust more in human effort than in God. As believers, we must go beyond simply paying lip service to what we say we believe, and start practicing dependence on God. We must properly divide His Word, because what was true under the law may no longer be true under grace. A legalistic mindset focuses primarily on God’s laws; by comparison, a grace-based mindset focuses on a relationship with Jesus. The law is good and perfect, and points to our need for a Savior; trusting in Christ helps us to perfectly keep the law by grounding our hearts and minds in His love.
