The Consequences of Being Out of God’s Will (Part 2)

Spiritual Growth

We must never forget the importance of giving from a place of awareness of God’s love for us, instead of from a sense of duty that causes us to give grudgingly. Being a giver awakens us to the blessings we already have in Christ. God’s economy is one of abundance; giving therefore reflects an awareness of this, rather than of our own worthiness. The impact of being in God’s will is illustrated in the story of Elijah at the brook; this highlights God’s provision at a specific place called “there.” Being in His will brings peace, joy, and fruitfulness, but being out of His will results in a loss of these experiences, although not a loss of salvation. One of the roles of the Holy Spirit is to guide believers to their “there,” where God’s provisions are already prepared. There’s a contrast between the consequences of being in and out of God’s will; challenges come in both situations but serve different purposes. Trusting in His guidance allows us to experience the fullness of His blessings.
