With all the uncertainty going on around us, it’s no secret that we’re living in dangerous times. Despite that, we’re not without protection. As believers, we have a covenant with God, Himself, and this promise guarantees our safety in the middle of chaos. Jesus shed His blood to ensure that we wouldn’t be left vulnerable to sickness, fear, or destruction. Because of Him, we can rest in the confidence that God has us on His mind.
The world is terrified, but thankfully, we’re not part of the world. We aren’t running to panic, to the news, or to fear, but to God. “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe” (Proverbs 18:10). When danger shows up, we remind ourselves that we’re righteous through Christ and we have a place of safety. In His name, we find refuge that can’t be shaken.
Protection is part of our covenant benefits, and we mustn’t forget what belongs to us. “Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits” (Psalm 103:1, 2). As beneficiaries of divine promises, there’s no reason to walk around in dread of what could happen. When we deliberately remember what we’ve received as God’s children, fear loses its grip on our hearts.
Because of what Jesus did on the cross for us. we’ve been redeemed from the curse that operates in the world. “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree” (Galatians 3:13). Therefore, the constant expectation of tragedy doesn’t belong to us. We’ve been bought back from doom and disaster, and our lives are no longer subject to the old covenant curse.
The curse includes living with a trembling heart and no assurance of life, but that’s not our portion. Before Jesus, the standard was a life filled with fear day and night, always expecting the worst. We recognize that kind of living because we still see it all around us. However, Jesus delivered us from it and we refuse to accept what He already redeemed us from.
We must never forget this. “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip” (Hebrews 2:1). Our salvation isn’t small; it includes deliverance from danger and preservation of life. Neglecting it opens the door to fear; conversely, embracing it lets us walk in peace.
God specializes in deliverance, and the Bible is full of examples that stir our faith. He delivered Daniel from the lion’s den, the three Hebrew boys from the furnace, Joseph from the pit, Paul from the viper, and Jonah from the fish. The same God who delivered them is our God today. We aren’t reading fairy tales but seeing a pattern of covenant protection.
God has done His part; our responsibility is to stay full of the Word and full of faith. We don’t give in to negative reports or allow anxiety to dominate our thoughts. Instead, we declare that we’re redeemed, preserved, and kept by God’s power. We speak life over our families, our homes, and our bodies.
We don’t make light of crime, sickness, and unrest around us, but instead magnify our covenant even more. We remember who we are and whose we are. As we do, we walk boldly in the safety that’s ours.
