“So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus” (Romans 6:11, ESV).

As believers, our new identity is defined through our union with Christ. “Consider yourselves” involves recognizing and embracing a spiritual reality: sin no longer has rightful authority over us because we belong to Him.

“For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are” (Romans 3:20, NLT).

Religion continues to operate by the Law of Moses. It tells us to work hard and perform to justify ourselves before God. However, the truth of God’s grace directs us away from self-effort and toward complete dependence on Jesus.

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage” (Galatians 5:1, NKJV).

Christ has already secured our freedom; we’re called to stand firmly in it rather than returning to the bondage of religious legalism or self-effort. Spiritual freedom isn’t permission to live carelessly, but the opportunity to live confidently in the righteousness God provided through Jesus despite our past mistakes.

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10).

“For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” (John 3:17).

Jesus’ purpose wasn’t to punish or point the finger of blame at humanity but to provide the way for our salvation. As believers, we’re called to reflect the same heart that He demonstrated.

“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more” (Hebrews 8:12).

Under the new covenant, God promises complete forgiveness—not partial or temporary—because of what Jesus did on the cross. Living with an awareness of His mercy produces gratitude and a deeper relationship with Him.

“You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth?” (Galatians 5:7, NLT).

The Galatians had been making strong spiritual progress until someone persuaded them to turn away from the truth of the gospel. This passage reminds us to guard our hearts against any message that shifts our confidence from Christ’s finished works to our own performance; staying rooted in grace keeps us moving forward in faith.

“Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Timothy 3:7).

Knowledge alone isn’t enough if it never results in embracing the truth of the gospel; a person can continually accumulate information while remaining spiritually unchanged. Genuine growth occurs when God's truth moves from the mind into the heart and transforms the way we think and live.

“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:21, NLT).

Jesus took upon Himself what belonged to us so that we could receive what belongs to Him—right standing with God. Our righteousness isn’t based on our performance but on our union with Christ.
