“Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour” (1 Peter 5:8, AMPC).
We’re in a spiritual war with Satan; in order to better withstand his constant attacks, we must be ready for battle. Being prepared keeps him from bringing us down.

“The reverent fear and worship of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom and skill [the preceding and the first essential, the prerequisite and the alphabet]; a good understanding, wisdom, and meaning have all those who do [the will of the Lord]. Their praise of Him endures forever” (Psalm 111:10, AMPC).
A healthy respect for, and awe of, God is the foundation for receiving the gift of wisdom from Him. Godly wisdom allows us to know His plan for our lives.

“The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good” (Psalm 14:1).

“He who becomes the parent of a [self-confident] fool does it to his sorrow, and the father of [an empty-headed] fool has no joy [in him] … A self-confident and foolish son is a grief to his father and bitterness to her who bore him” (Proverbs 17:21, 25, AMPC).Â
Children who haven’t been taught biblical wisdom will shame not only themselves, but their parents. Parents have a responsibility to teach their children right from wrong using God’s Word. Â

“The wise fear the Lord and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure. A quick-tempered person does foolish things, and the one who devises evil schemes is hated” (Proverbs 14:16, 17, NIV).
The world is full of people who let their anger dictate their thoughts and deeds. These individuals are attracted to evil like a moth to a flame.

“Stay away from a fool, for you will not find knowledge on their lips. The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception. Fools mock at making amends for sin, but goodwill is found among the upright” (Proverbs 14:7-9, NIV).
Some people are so wrong-headed that they reject common sense. They speak and behave rashly, with no thought to the consequences of their words or actions. It’s wise to shun their company.

“In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them” (Proverbs 14:3).
Foolish people are proud and arrogant, and they get themselves in trouble when they open their mouths. By comparison, those with godly wisdom have the spiritual discernment to speak appropriately and keep themselves out of danger.

“Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands” (Proverbs 14:1).
The truly wise woman builds up her family, blessing everyone by gracious words and deeds to demonstrate God’s love for them. By comparison, the foolish woman uses her words and actions to tear others down and bring strife and bitterness to the household.

“Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul; and all that is [deepest] within me, bless His holy name! Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul, and forget not [one of] all His benefits… Who satisfies your mouth [your necessity and desire at your personal age and situation] with good so that your youth, renewed, is like the eagle’s [strong, overcoming, soaring]” (Psalm 103:1, 2, 5, AMPC).
God always comes to us and meets us right where we are when we need help. Regardless of how young or old we are or where we are in life, He blesses us with all good things and renews us.
