“Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ” (Colossians 2:8, NLT).

Religion can fool us. It’s dangerous to blindly accept philosophies taught in church if they aren’t scripturally based.

“There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord” (Proverbs 21:30, NIV).

God is the author of eternal wisdom, but this simple truth escapes the world. Any philosophy that contradicts His Word is wrong, and anyone using that philosophy to make plans or try to gain insight independently of Him will surely fail.

“The violence of the wicked will destroy them, because they refuse to do justice” (Proverbs 21:7, NKJV).

We live in a violent world. Whatever we sow is the thing we eventually reap. Doing evil opens us up to destruction.

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, but those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty” (Proverbs 21:5, NKJV).

God is well aware of our need for money on a daily basis, but He also knows that some people are consumed with greed and just want to make a fast buck. He blesses honest people who work diligently, but those with a “get rich quick” mentality only hurt themselves.

“Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord” (2 Peter 1:2).

Knowledge of God and from God is nothing like the knowledge we receive from the world. Worldly knowledge is intellectual and can’t make us happy; godly knowledge gives us peace and joy.

“Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord” (Jeremiah 23:23, 24).

God is everywhere, and there’s no escaping His loving presence. When He asks us to do something, there’s no use trying to run away, because He always knows exactly where we are.

“Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord. Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the Lord” (Jeremiah 23:1, 2).

Leaders in the church have been charged with shepherding God’s flock, keeping watch over their souls, and ensuring their spiritual safety. It’s a huge responsibility that must be taken seriously.

“He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity” (Ecclesiastes 5:10).

Putting money, riches, and wealth ahead of God will never satisfy us. An infatuation with collecting material goods and being rich brings misery, not happiness.

“The reward of humility and the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life” (Proverbs 22:4, AMPC).

God honors those who honor Him. This is true not just in our finances, but in all other areas of life as well.
