“When I said, ‘My foot is slipping,’ your unfailing love, LORD, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy” (Psalm 94:18, 19, NIV).

We’ll always make our share of mistakes, but God is always there to pick us up and help us continue. When fear threatens to overcome us, the joy of His loving presence steadies and strengthens us.

“For not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified” (Romans 2:13, NKJV).

We must be careful that all our words and deeds demonstrate the grace and mercy we’ve received from Jesus Christ. Others are watching everything we do. As His ambassadors, we can show the world His true nature.

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1, NKJV).

If we’re not careful, we can let the world distract us from focusing on Jesus. To prevent that, God has put people around us to point us back to Him and keep us on track.

“The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?” (Psalm 118:6).

We need not fear what people think or say about us when we know God is on our side. When others gather against us, we can take comfort in knowing that He’ll never desert us.

“What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile” (Psalm 34:12, 13).

We can positively influence our lives through our own speech. Speaking in alignment with God’s Word allows us to be blessed with good things and long, happy lives.

“Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it” (Ephesians 4:29, AMPC).

Believers have God Himself living in them; it’s therefore especially important to remember how what we say affects those around us. God has given us the power of speech; we must use this power to bless and encourage others.

“Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles” (Proverbs 21:23).

Words are powerful, and we can get ourselves in trouble if we forget that. With our words, we can speak things into existence, either for good or for evil.

“For the LORD takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory” (Psalm 149:4, NIV).

Embracing the same humble attitude that Jesus had is one way of showing that we’re God’s children. Choosing humility over pride is a choice He honors greatly.
