Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything (James 1:2-4, NIV).

Following in Jesus’ footsteps guarantees that we’ll face trials, temptations, and persecutions. We can rejoice when we encounter them, knowing that temptation is the devil’s way of trying to get us to become weary in our Christian walk. We defeat him with a joyful attitude and the willingness to persevere.

But I will sing of Your power; yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; for You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble (Psalm 59:16, NKJV).

Praising God for what He has done for us, what He’s doing now, and for what He’ll do in the future, is pleasing to Him. Acknowledging how He keeps us safe from harm empowers and strengthens our prayer life.

Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth (Jeremiah 33:6).

God makes some amazing promises to us in His Word; the beautiful thing is that when we accept them by faith, they come to pass in our lives. One of those promises involves divine healing as only He can bring it; because of His great love for us, He links health and healing to abundant peace in our lives.

The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook. A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes. A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul. The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly (Proverbs 18:4, 6-8).

God doesn’t mince words when He tells us about the power of the tongue. We can use the power of speech He gave us to either speak wisdom or foolishness.

He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding (Proverbs 17:27, 28).

Sometimes the best indication of a foolish person is when they open their mouth and begin to speak. Knowing when to talk and when to keep silent is part of godly wisdom.

And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; for they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, ‘Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid’ (Mark 6:49, 50, NKJV).

When the storms of life hit and threaten to drown us, our natural response is to be afraid; however, God tells us to respond supernaturally and to resist fear. When we focus solely on Jesus, we find shelter, protection, and deliverance.

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:20).

Thankfulness from the heart, regardless of the situation at the moment, pleases God. It’s easy to say “thank you” when things are going well but more challenging to be thankful when we experience trouble or something goes wrong in our lives.

In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NKJV).

A thankful attitude is important to God; when we contemplate all that He has done in our lives, and is still doing, it’s hard not to give thanks. God’s will is to bless us so generously that we realize without a doubt that all the good things we experience aren’t from our hand, but from His.
